ShotTraxx™
Last updated: October 9, 2026
ShotTraxx™ is a golf app that marks shots with your phone’s GPS, keeps a scorecard, and shows yards to the green. This page describes what the app does with information. There is no ShotTraxx™ account and no sign-in. If purchases are configured, Apple and RevenueCat receive an anonymous id for this install so the app can tell whether a purchase is unlocked. That id is not an account.
Rounds are stored on your phone
Rounds, scores, clubs, and shot marks are stored on the device. You can export a copy of your rounds or restore from a file you choose. We do not sell personal information.
Location, while you use the app
ShotTraxx™ uses location only with the When In Use permission. It does not ask for Always location.
During a round in progress, ShotTraxx™ keeps using that location while your phone is locked so the yards on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island stay up to date. iOS shows its location indicator while this happens. It stops when you finish the round or dismiss the round from your Lock Screen. That location is only turned into yards to the green on your phone; it is not stored as a trail or sent anywhere.
While you use the app, location is used to:
- find courses near you
- show yards to the green, including on your Lock Screen during a round
- mark where you hit from when you pick a club
The Apple Watch can use its location when you pick a club, for that shot mark, and for Search nearby. The course lookup itself runs on the phone, using a fresh Watch location when the Watch has one.
A nearby-course search sends that location to our server (the share Worker) so a course provider can return courses around you. Hole-map outlines can also be requested from OpenStreetMap around the course or green. The hole map on iPhone uses Apple Maps. Those requests are for the course list and the map. They are not a location profile that we sell.
Camera and photos
Camera and photo library are optional. They are used only when you photograph a paper scorecard to add a course or map a hole.
- Camera: take a photo of that scorecard.
- Photo library: read the one photo you pick.
ShotTraxx™ does not save photos to your library. The photo you pick is kept in the app’s storage on the phone until it is mailed or uploaded, or until you discard the draft. It is then deleted.
Sharing a round
Sharing is optional. If you share a live board or a scorecard, the app can store that scorecard on the share Worker so someone with the code or link can open it.
What is sent is the scorecard: course name, holes, par, scores, putts, club and yards, and start and finish times. A group board can also include the other players’ names and, when a net game is on, a handicap. It does not include GPS coordinates or a shot trail.
The share sheet can also send a scorecard image through an app you pick, such as Messages or Mail. That goes to whoever you choose.
Add this course opens an email. That email is sent from your own address and can include the course name, city, hole pins and the scorecard photo. You tap Send in Mail. Nothing is mailed until you do.
Map this hole is different. Adding a scorecard photo uploads that JPEG to the share Worker. Send posts the hole: the course, the hole number, the pins you set, an optional par, the email you type, and a photo id when the upload succeeded. If you used I’m here, that post includes that GPS point and its accuracy. These posts can include an anonymous install id stored on the phone and, when purchases are configured, an anonymous purchase id. You tap Send for the hole report. If the photo upload does not succeed, the photo stays on your phone.
Report a problem with this course/hole posts the course, the hole, the reason, an optional note, what the hole screen was showing, and the GPS point already on that screen when there is one. The same anonymous install id goes with it. A report that cannot be sent stays queued on the phone.
We do not sell this information.
Course details you submit. When you use Add this course, Request this course, Map this hole, or Contribute a course, the pins, hole details and scorecard photo you send may be used to build and improve the course maps every ShotTraxx user sees. Your email address and install ID are never shown to other golfers or put into any course map. We use your email only to contact you about that submission, and we don’t sell it or share it for marketing.
Anonymous tee and green spots (coming in a future update). ShotTraxx may also use the tee and green spots from rounds you play to fill in or correct course maps. Those spots are combined with other golfers’ spots and stripped of your name, email and install ID before they’re used, so they can’t be traced back to you.
Course maps
Course and map data, such as tees and greens, may be fetched through the share Worker. The keys for those course providers stay on the Worker. They are not in the app.
A copy of that course geometry may be kept on the phone and, when a shared cache is configured, on that cache, so the same course does not have to be fetched again. The cache is course data, not your round.
Apple Watch
The Watch app is a companion to the round on your phone. It uses an Apple App Group on your devices, together with Watch Connectivity, to show the same hole, clubs, yards to the green, and putts. It does not collect extra kinds of information beyond that round, and it does not have its own account.
During a round the Watch starts a golf workout session so the app can stay up. ShotTraxx™ does not read Health data, does not save that session to Health, and does not send Health data off the Watch.
Children
ShotTraxx™ is a golf app for players. It is not directed to children under 13.
